State Level Workshops for sensitizing stakeholders about the need of Heat Stress Action Plans – Workshop on ‘Climate Change and Heat Stress’

A workshop on ‘Climate Change and Heat Stress’ on 6th March 2019 was organized at Indian Institute of Management Ahmadabad (IIMA) in collaboration with Mahila Housing Sewa Trust. The workshop was part of the event ‘Policy dialogue on Climate Change and Developed’ and it deliberated on the key findings of the study ‘Climate Adaptive Heat Stress Action Plan’. Prof. Kirit Parikh, Chairman, IRADe said that for having climate and heat resilient development in cities it is important to link the issue with the existing smart city plans as in the absence of appropriate strategies for addressing climate change impacts the suffering of the cities can be colossal. Mr. Rohit Magotra presented the project activities; thermal hots spot maps, research tools etc and key findings of the field survey in Rajkot city, which has shown the impact of heat stress on health, livelihood and productivity of the vulnerable people living in slums and squatters of the city.  Mrs. Bijal Brahmbhatt, Director, Mahila Housing Sewa Trust (MHT) shared the work done in cool roof tops for management of heat stress. More than 75 participants from Gujarat ministry, state departments, research institutes, private companies and academic organizations attended the event.
