  • State of disaster-resilience at city-levels
  • Challenges faced by Urban Local Bodies to increase Urban Infrastructure
  • Inclusive growth for the Urban Poor

  • 4 regional workshops conducted to receive inputs from local administrative bodies and stakeholders
  • Multi-hazard Assessment maps for 10 cities which helps authorities understand risk and need for preparedness
  • Development of an Integrated Approach for sustainable and disaster-resilient development in cities

CITY DISASTER MANAGEMENT PLAN -

Review of City Disaster Plans of six cities Bhubaneshwar, Madurai, Shimla, Trivandrum and Vijayawada

PROBLEM ADDRESSED -

Assessing the clarity, comprehensiveness, efficiency, appropriateness of Climate Risk Management measures and dissemination, including their integration into disaster management plans

POLICY / ACTION / SOLUTIONS -

  • Solution to improve efficacy, visibility and implementation of the city disaster management plans
  • Developed strategy for city administrations to identify and resolve gaps in the plan review process

VULNERABILITY OF COSTAL CITIES TO CLIMATE CHANGE -

Case study of Surat city’s vulnerability to climate change

PROBLEM ADDRESSED -

Absence of integrated analytical framework for floods and disaster management strategy for urban areas close to Tapi basin, Ulkai dam and the coastline

POLICY / ACTION / SOLUTIONS -

  • Developed hydrological model for Surat, helping the city assess water depths under different scenarios
  • Vulnerability assessment inputs to Government of India’s mission to build disaster resilient infrastructure, as well as state development goals 9.1, 11 and 13

VULNERABILITY OF COSTAL CITIES TO CLIMATE CHANGE -

Developing Disaster Resilience Action Plan for the Cities of Shillong and Gangtok

PROBLEM ADDRESSED -

  • Non availability of high-resolution climate vulnerability maps
  • Lack of decision-support system for decentralized action at ward level
  • Non-availability of resilience action plans

POLICY / ACTION / SOLUTIONS -

  • Developed cadastral maps and critical infrastructure maps at the scale of 1:4000.
  • Mapped Hazard-wise vulnerable zones for cities, helping cities to develop disaster resilient action plans.
  • Resilience inputs for achieving SDGs 9.1 and 11, and Government of India’s mission to build disaster resilient infrastructure
